Question 1

What is an eSIM?

Accepted Answer

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a cellular plan without a physical SIM card. It's built into most modern smartphones and lets you connect to mobile networks instantly by scanning a QR code.

Question 2

How do I know if my device supports eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Most iPhones from iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and many other modern smartphones support eSIM. Check your device settings under Cellular/Mobile Data - if you see an option to add an eSIM or cellular plan, your device is compatible.

Question 3

How do I install my eSIM?

Accepted Answer

After purchasing, you'll receive a QR code in your dashboard. Go to your phone's Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > Add eSIM > Scan QR Code. Follow the on-screen instructions and your eSIM will be ready to use.

Question 4

When should I install my eSIM?

Accepted Answer

You can install your eSIM anytime before your trip while connected to Wi-Fi. We recommend installing it before you depart so it's ready to activate when you arrive at your destination.

Question 5

Can I use eSIM and my regular SIM at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Most eSIM-compatible devices support Dual SIM, meaning you can keep your regular SIM for calls and texts while using the eSIM for data. Just set your eSIM as the data line in your device settings.

Question 6

What types of plans do you offer?

Accepted Answer

We offer three types of plans: Local plans (single country), Regional plans (multiple countries in a region like Europe or Asia), and Global plans (125+ countries worldwide). Each comes with different data amounts and validity periods.

Question 7

Which countries are covered?

Accepted Answer

PennySim covers 190+ countries and territories worldwide. You can browse available destinations in our eSIM Store or search for a specific country.

Question 8

What speeds can I expect?

Accepted Answer

Our eSIMs connect to local carrier networks and support 4G/LTE and 5G speeds where available. Actual speeds depend on the local network conditions and coverage in your specific location.

Question 9

Can I top up or extend my plan?

Accepted Answer

Yes! You can top up your eSIM directly from your dashboard under 'My eSIMs'. Simply select the eSIM you want to top up and choose a new data package. The additional data will be added to your existing eSIM - no need to install a new QR code.

Question 10

Do plans include calls and texts?

Accepted Answer

Most of our plans are data-only. You can make calls and send messages using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Skype over your data connection. Your regular SIM can still handle traditional calls and SMS.

Question 11

How do I activate my eSIM after arriving?

Accepted Answer

If you've already installed the eSIM, simply go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data, select your eSIM line, and turn on Data Roaming. Your eSIM should connect to the local network automatically.

Question 12

My eSIM isn't connecting. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

First, make sure you're in the eSIM's coverage area - your eSIM will only work in the country or region it was purchased for. If you're in the right location, try these steps:

1) Confirm the eSIM is turned on and set as your data line in Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data.

2) Turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM line. On iOS, you can enable it per SIM - keep it off for your primary SIM to avoid extra charges. On Android, data roaming usually applies to all SIMs, so consider turning off your primary SIM.

3) Make sure Airplane Mode is off - this is one of the most common reasons for connection issues.

4) Check if your eSIM requires a specific APN. Most eSIMs configure the APN automatically, but some may need it set manually.

5) Try selecting a network manually in Settings > Carrier/Network - your eSIM may support multiple local networks.

6) If you have other SIMs enabled, temporarily turn them off as they may interfere with the eSIM connection.

7) Try switching your network mode from 5G to 4G/LTE.

8) Restart your device to refresh the connection.

If none of these steps help, please contact our support team for assistance.

Question 13

Can I use my eSIM for hotspot/tethering?

Accepted Answer

Yes! All of our eSIM plans support hotspot and data sharing with other devices. On iOS and most Android devices, APNs are preconfigured automatically. The only exception is Japan, where you'll need to manually set the APN to 'vmobile.jp'.

Question 14

What happens when my data runs out?

Accepted Answer

When your data allowance is used up, the data connection will stop. You won't incur any additional charges. You can purchase a new plan if you need more data.

Question 15

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through our secure payment partner Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also supported.

Question 16

Are there any hidden fees?

Accepted Answer

No. The price you see is the price you pay. There are no activation fees, no hidden charges, and no auto-renewal. All prices are displayed in USD.

Question 17

Do you offer promo codes or discounts?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We regularly offer promotions and discount codes. Follow us on social media to stay updated on the latest deals.

Question 18

How do I check my data usage?

Accepted Answer

You can check your remaining data in the PennySim dashboard under 'My eSIMs'. You can also check your device's cellular data usage in Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data.

Question 19

Can I delete my eSIM and reinstall it?

Accepted Answer

Once an eSIM is deleted from your device, the QR code cannot be reused. You would need to purchase a new plan. We recommend keeping the eSIM installed until it expires.

Question 20

Can I transfer my eSIM to another device?

Accepted Answer

eSIMs are tied to the device they're installed on and cannot be transferred. If you get a new device, you'll need to purchase a new eSIM.
